Good day.

Recently I have been receiving some signals from my car. I get out of my car and use the control to lock it, it unlocks immediatly and honks 2 times. What am I not doing that it want to stay unlocked?

I do have ignition switch problems.I am aware of the low slight honk it does when I leave the storage compartment is not closed completly. yet the car does lock in that scenario.

986 97'

:( please help.

The double beep is to warn you there is a fault in the system. My guess is the control unit under the seat or the door lock actuator. Do the doors stay locked when you use dash button.

I would have to ask Peter if this is at all related to a bad ignition switch.

I trust you know there was an ignition switch recall on some 1997s. I think it was only about 3,000 cars. Recall came out in 1999. My 1997 was on the list.

Doors do stay locked if I use the dash button.

If I use the key to lock the doors it also rejects the locking request.

I am aware of the switch recall. I just dont know if my car was in it. Where can I look that up? I have had the car for 3 months only.

There was a card Porsche mailed out to the registered owner in 1999. Peter calls a number and punches in your VIN and a recording says if there are any recalls. And any service advisor can put your VIN in the computer to see if there is an open recall.

With that said there are many Boxsters of different years and 996s that have had ignition switch problems and there was no recall. Never understood why the recall was only for a few 1997s since the switch problem continued to 2002.
