I'm getting a CEL, checked the codes at Autozone noew and it came out as P0300 (random misfire) I had a tune up, coils and plugs changed at the dealer back in November along with all fluids. Last weekend installed a new battery too. This morning I got the CEL, my bro says it's most likely bad gas as I had it parked since end of January as I was overseas. He suggests, fill up the tank, clear the codes, drive it for 20-30 miles and then see how it goes before another trip to the dealer, he said it worked for his Bimmer. Good advice?? and How do I clear the codes, disconnect the battery??

By the way it's an '02 with no mods.

Are you sure there are not more faults - for specific cylinders?

What scan tool are you using?

Loren,

No, none, autozone, I believe it was duramatic. I had 0301 and 0304 before and that's when they changed the plugs and coils. Scanned at autozone too first.

Usually, in these instances it is plugs, coils, and the electrical connectors on the coils.

I would double check them all.

They were all replaced at the dealer less than a year ago, should I try to disconnect the battery to clear them and see if they come back again? You don't think it's a gas issue?

I do not know about gas unless you know of folks that have similar problems.

Yes, you can erase them and see if they come back.

BTW... new plugs and coils last year does not mean that one or more may have failed.

Thanks Loren, I'm not sure how to inspect plugs, coils. Is there an easy way to do it? I'll connect in an hour and fire it up. If not I'll have to make a dealer trip again.
