hi everyone. so my dad comes up with the great idea of sticking velcro on the dash of a 2008 911 C4S, and of course the velcro comes off. Now, as ive warned him, there was adhesive all over the various spots of the dash where he tested mounting a radar detector on. Also, i told him to go to the dealer for advice on how to remove the adhesive. He went with his gut and used goo gone on the two spots and has caused shininess on the direct center of the dash, and ate through the plastic part of the dash closest to the windshield. What are my options? should i just have the whole dash replaced? is there a cleaner that can be used? is this reparable? i tried to look up parts for dash replacement with no luck. please help. thanks in advance.

I would make a stink at the dealer and tell them that you just used a towel to get a mark off the dash and it left it shiny. They might replace it for you under warranty. My old man drives a 2010 Lexus Rx and some of the dashboards out there on newer cars are really sensitive. He used a dry towel and left a huge scratch on the dash. The lexus dealer was great and replaced the dash for him. Of course it didn't hurt that he sent a letter to the dealer and CC'd the regional vp of lexus to let them know how ridiculous it was that just by using a towel that the dash got scratched. I would try this tactic with Porsche. I feel your pain.

Removing the dash is alot of work. You will

need to dis-connect alot of electrical stuff. You

will need to pull all the stuff off the steering wheel.

You will need to remove the display unit.

Maybe if you send us a picture we can come up

with something else.

I don't think he is referring to removing and installing a new dash himself. This is way too involved and really should be done by a pro. I don't think he has alot of options besides maybe looking for another cleaner that can restore the dull look instead of the shiny look the spots have

Don't be a low life! You damaged the dash you pay to replace it!! Why would Porshe be required to replace a dash you damaged. Hello it's plastic or leather? Lexus replaced something? Never again!! They are cheap asses!!!! E

If it's leather it can probably be fixed with a retouch. Take it to a reputable detailer (anyone who knows what "paint correction" is and has a portfolio to prove it) and see if they can repair it. For vinyl, a relative of mine once had a fit and kicked the dashboard of my Passat wagon; I was able to remove the scuff with some very careful compounding and spot sanding with wet 1500 grit (did I mention careful!). If the grain is already gone, you're hosed.

The trim closest to the windshield is fairly easy to pop out and replace. See the "Porsche Parts at Dealer Cost" link above.

Next time, tell dad that diluted rubbing alcohol on a terrycloth rag should pick up any leftover adhesive with little elbow grease required.
