Hey guys, this is my first thread. I have been mostly bimmers and benz, but finally decided to make the move to a pcar and I love it! its a 1999 with 27k miles. picked it up about 2 months ago for way cheap!!! about the price of a new Accord LX!!! anyways, took the car to a local Dyno meet with BMW groupies and when we pulled the area(sorry don't have all the terms down yet) that covers the engine, I noticed my engine is horribly dirty. Filty I would say. So whats the best way to clean her up? I bought it from Boardwalk Porsche here in Plano. and the only service stamp in the books is an oil change at 14k miles. Is there anything else i need to look into doing?

I detailed the engine compartment with TSP and some brushes a little water, all by hand took about an hour.

It was quick and without to much effort, just careful not to scrub or push to hard.

I will do the whole thing later.

I did this after...

Scott-

That's a pretty impressive engine compartment...I assume you painted most of the pieces, or are those "aftermarket" parts? Seems to me a high-temp paint would do the trick, but not so sure it would work well on the rubber/flexible parts.

Thank you,

No, it's all done by hand [no spray], I have done a little study on the engine compartment temps and have found in the areas I painted, they were nominal.

Most of the plastic parts would of melted before my paint had problems, I did this in back in May and it looks the same [just looked], the only thing that has changed is the wrapping of the shifter cables has rubbed on the engine lid some.

I used Plasti-Kote paint from Wallmart, excellent multi purpose paint quit durable.

Very little taping...

You could do it, I can tell you what I learned not to do...
