Hi there,

i have a 2000 boxster 2.7

we have annual check in the uk called an MOT, the car failed for the first time on non working number plate lights.

i read the forums and

changed the fuse A5,

replaced the bulbs (where the copper connections were green so i cleaned them)

and also swapped the headlight switch.

the analog speedo lighting on the dashboard work ok.

still no joy

i have run out of ideas. hope someone has an idea?

problem is i cant get the car taxed and on the road without the MOT pass.....

In a wet and cold climate as the UK have, it's better to replace the complete bulb unit ((not expensive), the corrosion did his job after 9 years, be sure of that.

I have the same problem. Fuse is ok. Dash lights ok. No voltage at light bulbs. I would rather rectify the problem than start bodging the wiring. Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers - Matt.

Check the connector behind the rear bumper, if the bumper ever was removed.

I have a picture of the lights with the bumper cover off, but I did not pay attention to any connector back there. The lights have a BMW logo on them....

Remove the bumper, the connector is visible on Tool Pants pic. besides the wire label, attached on the black spoiler reinforcement.

Just following these posts.

The bulbs get very hot, and the connectors would then suffer as well.

When you have solved your problem, use some silicon grease in the bulb connector, to reduce the corrosion created from the heat.

or, make an LED replacement, then you have no corrosion problems.

Finally got round to fixing this today. Fed some new wires through the grommet in the boot (Rear trunk) and snipped old feed and soldered them in. Then did same at other end and soldered them to the lights. Thanks for your help everyone! :)

Cheers - Matt.
