Rev ranges have been an extremely well covered topic here on the Forum. You should search and read through some old threads.

Here are the rev ranges for your car:

A 997-1 DME records the following rev ranges:

Range 1: 7300-7500 RPM

Range 2: 7500-7700 RPM

Range 3: 7700-7900 RPM

Range 4: 7900-8400 RPM

Range 5: 8400-9500 RPM

Range 6: 9500-11000 RPM

Range 1 and 2 are very common. A few ("few" being the operative word) ignitions are OK in range 3. Ignitions in range 4-6 spell "T O A S T " for both your engine and warranty.

How do you get "safe" ignitions that exceed your rev limiter? That happens from the momentum and inertia of your engine. How do you get ignitions that exceed range 3? Mainly missed shifts or spinning the car (get clutch in asap). The rev limiter only protects on the way...not on the way down (missed shift).
