Hi. looking to tap in 12v that comes on when the headlights are on. The seat heater switches light up when the headlights are on, so I wanted to tap into that. but, of course there are a lot (5) of wires attached to that switch cause it also controls the heated seats. Which one makes it light up?

The seat heater lights only come on when the seat heaters are on. Red for the high position and yellow for the low position. You should not need any connection to the headlights.

found it. it's the red/blue wire. it comes on when the headlights or parking lights are on, even if the heated seats are not.

Again , in "factory" set up the lights on the tip switches that control the seat heaters are only on when the heaters are switched on. If you wire the switches in some way so that they are illuminated when the headlights are on, irregardless or whether the heaters are on then you won't know it the heaters are on or off except for the fact that the seat get warm.

Those switches have two levels of lighting. They light dimly (via the blue/red wire) whenever the headlights are turned on (even if the heated seats are not switched on). I have successfully installed footwell lights that only light up (no matter whether the heated seats are turned on or not) when the headlights switch is turned on by tapping into the blue/red heated switch seat wire.
