I will have had my 2005 997 C2 coupe for 5 years in January. With approximately 53k miles, it has had only minor issues, most fixed early on under warranty. Recently, the display screen exhibited horizontal lines that rolled, jumped, and generally screwed up the image, sort an electronic noise thing. I turned off the system for a few minutes then turned it back on and everything was fine. Today, however, it went blank with a vague backlit look. I left it on for a while and the image finally showed up, but with lots of the "noise" again, then went blank again. The radio and CD work just fine, but the screen image is gone using audio, nav, main display, or any options.

Has anyone experienced or heard of this issue, and can anyone venture a guess about the problem? Thanks for any help you can offer.

As long as i remember, PCM's with this issue are replaced by a rebuild unit. You can always use a PIWIS tool to find out what's wrong and/or do a reprogramming/wake up to be sure.

RFM, thank you for the response, but I'm really unfamiliar with some of the tools and techniques you guys talk about. What is a PIWIS tool and where would I get one. Also, how do I do a reprogramming/wake up, and can I do this myself or does it have to be done by a service tech?

If I have to replace the unit with a rebuilt one, have you seen any correspondence that indicates how expensive the part & job are? Thanks again.

PIWIS is the dealer/OPC workshop computer for diagnosis and programming. Unless you have a spare $18,000 around you won't be able to lease from Porsche.

Some independent shops have a PIWIS tester and all dealers/OPCs have them.

Cost will depend on which part needs replacing and whether or not you have any warranty left.
