P1531 Camshaft Adjustment Bank 1

Hi,

Not sure if you have had the problem fixed now or not. However, I believe we had code 1531 on our 99 C2 as well recently. The symptoms were an extremely rough idle, but fine when driving, and only slightly down on power. In fact I suspect that we put a good 1000 km on it in this condition due to a 3 week wait at our dealer (I just love the Canadian Porsche dealer monopoly... er network in Ontario).

It turned out to be the solenoid valve for the variocam on the drivers' side. The part number was 996-605-901-00. They also charged for a few cheap o-rings and sealant. Price was 299.90 for parts and 428 in labour (Canadian dollars).

Not sure if this helps or not.

Jeff

  • 2 years later...

I had a cel today and error 1531 came out.... none the less I still drove the car around as the CEL *wasn't* flashing.... after a few starts and some mileage the CEL did not come one when I started the car...

I had the 1531 come on about 2 years ago...we cleared the CEL and it didn't come back on until today... engine seems to be fine.... if this indeed is a problem..

so now I have cruised around for a few hours with no CEL on.... any recommendations?

I would clean the wiring connector and inspect it for damage.

Thx Loren,

is this something I can do myself or does it involve extensive work...?

I have this problem too,. the funny thing is I had 1531 at first., cleared it away., and now its 1539...

I didn't switch the sensor... loren , from under the car, where exactly can I see that sensor... I am not sure if I lossen the connector when i install the header.. if there is any thing to do with it

Well, you will need to get under the car (safely) and inspect the connector/wiring and repair it if needed.
