Whenever, I take my car into the local 100% hand wash and hand Dry ( no machines, tracks, blowers etc), when they move the car from the washing area to the detail area, a very loud squeek comes from the engine compartment. I used to think it was just water getting on the belts, because when you rev the engine a few times, it goes away. So this time I put a plastic sheet all over the engine to defer the water off the engine and away from the belts. It still squeeked as loud as ever. This is the only time I get anykind of squeek (when it is being washed.) Any ideas what it could be?? (04 C4S Cab Tip)

I'm pretty sure you have a family of Hamsters living in your engine bay. When you get them wet it make them angry. This has been covered many times here....

i had this issue come up several years ago when i first picked up the car ... it may well be that pulley guiding the serpentine belt. what happens is for cars that get washed and then end up sitting for days at a time... rust forms. squeaks. the water is trapped. it gets bad enough where the pulley will seize and the belt will be thrown.

when this happens, you lose the alternator and your car will come to a stop with the batter warning light. happened to me on hwy 1 a shop skip and a jump outside of san fran. lovely.

i'd get the pulley checked out first.

You were right phillipj, I put some hamster food in the engine bay just before the wash, no sound! I guess that they were so busy eating, they just forgot to squeal!

They like Porsches because the wiring harness manufacturer puts a coating of starch on them during its manufacturing process and that's what makes them appealing to rodents. No joke.
