well about a 1-2 months ago my boxster started heating up...so i parked it, 3 weeks ago i put it on ramps in the rear...and then it sat again, last week i pulled the waterpump, thermostat housing, etc... and ordered new parts.

TODAY i finally put everything back on.

i just wanted to say that i can understand why porsche charges so much to work on the stupid cars. i did the waterpump, thermostat, air filter (K&N), and belt...it took me 4 hours!! granted if i had a lift it probably would have been much much easier but, i don't. it was the most aggravating thing i've ever worked on...it had me swearing and throwing stuff...esspecially the thermostat housing, the top rear bolt....and that middle left waterpump bolt. Yeehaw.

Anyways, i got everything changed, and i filled the collant tank, i took the plastic cover off and found a bleeder looking system, pulled it and it drained the tank down (cool) so i THINK i have it full. then i let it warm up with the heater on full blast. it warmed up to just between the 8 and 0 in 180. i know i asked this before but... it ran between 8/0, i kicked on the a/c and it went just into the 0 of 180 (so it moved about 1/16 of an inch), then i shut it all down entirely and it ran right around that spot till i shut it down. is that normal? before it got to about 3/4 on the guage once and then i stopped driving it and did all this. hopefully these results are good. if not...i may just have to park my 6x6 on the 986.

8.98 US quarts of oil.

Unless you vacuum fill the coolant system you will likely have to add coolant for the next week. Check it daily as it bleeds the air out of the system.

wow...wheres it put all that oil! my 7.3litre powerstroke DIESEL uses 12 quarts, this little motor is only 3 quarts shy...lol. i was hoping alldata was wrong!

yeah i saw the section on the vacuum filler on alldata but...just wasn't planning to go buy that vacuum setup to fill my system once. i'll keep an eye on it, realistically i probably won't even drive it much anyways though, bought a larger 4dr luxury car while the porsche was sitting...i don't want it anymore. :(

couple more stupid questions... where do you check/fill tranny fluid level (tiptronic)? what kind of fluid does it take?

There isn't a dipstick or anything for Tips. On the bottom of the pan are two plugs. A smaller one closer to the bell housing, which is a drain, and a larger one, closer to the rear of the tranny, that's the fill hole. To fill the tranny, you insert a filling tool and pump in fluid until it runs out of the fill hole. Sort of like a differential. If you take a 17mm allen and remove the fill plug (after the tranny is hot) and a small amount of fluid runs out, it's full.

According to the books, the ATF spec is ESSO LT 71141. 3.7Q to change it, 9.5 quarts total, including the Torque Conv.
