I have a 97 C2S and it hasen't been driven for more than a year. Changed the oil and put in 11quarts drove for about 30min and the oil level gauge reads empty. Could this be a glitch or does the car need to be driven more so everything breaks in again? Thanks all

If you're looking at the gauge in the instrument cluster, fuggedaboutit. The dipstick is what counts. If you changed oil while the engine was cold, you probably added too much oil! Take the car out again and get it warmed up. Watch the oil temp gauge. It'll get to about 9:00, stay there for a few minutes, then drop down to about 8:00. That means the oil themostat has opened. Park on level ground and let the car idle for a few minutes. Now, check your oil by the dipstick. (hard to do with clean oil) I bet you'll show you have plenty of oil, probably too much. Shut it down and if so, siphon it out from the filler tube, about 1/2 qt. at a time until you're where you need to be.

Moosey, you are not a worthy 993 owner. :) You need to drive that bad-boy more. There are people that would gladly donate a kidney or a testicle to own an air cooled legend! You are a lucky man.

(Loren are we allowed to say the "T" word :P )

Your oil level gauge is a 2 quart reading. 3 O'clock means one quart down (once the thermostat has opened). I tend to only follow it and not the dipstick, but that's me. Most on these boards go with TRACKRAT and use the stick. With 11 quarts, you are bound to have enough, if not to much oil, since its only a 12 quart system with both filters new, all lines drained (including the cooler).
