I have a recently purchased 2002 911 Carrera 4 Cab. w/ 58k miles (manual trans). The service engine light came on (code P0021) and I was told over the phone by a Porsche service tech that 99% of the time that means a bad camshaft position sensor. Well, I changed the sensor and the light came right back on (within 5 mins, 3 miles of driving). Any ideas what to look into next? Thanks, I really appreciate any input.

P0021 Adjustment of Inlet Camshaft in relation to Crankshaft, Bank 2 – Signal Implausible

Possible cause of fault

- Dirt in oil circuit

- Sealing strips on inlet camshaft adjuster faulty

- Oil pressure too low

- Mechanical fault in inlet camshaft adjuster

- Magnetic hydraulic valve faulty

Check oil pressure, oil pump, pressure-regulating valve and oil type.

Check magnetic hydraulic valve for leaks, check sealing strips on camshaft adjuster and camshaft adjuster itself for damage and check camshaft adjustment oil circuit for leaks and blockage.
