2005 carrera s clutch

Need someone with some knowledge on the 05 carrera s clutches to please let me know if its possible to get to 80,000 miles without replacing it. Want to purchase the car but the dealer is saying the clutch has never been replaced and it should be good for over 100,000 miles. The car shifts smooth and can't feel any slippage. Don't want to buy the car then have to replace the clutch right away. Also is there anything else major that I should look for on this model? Need some help thanks.

Check th motor. A big problem is people backing up

over curbs. They use some glue to put back the

broken aluminum from the motor case.

I think you need to be informed without a line of BS from the dealer. The clutch's last around 25,000 miles depending on driving patterns. Mine lasted till 30000. I just changed mine and the cost at an independant shop on my 2003 C2 was around $1500 for labor and everything. I think 80K has never been done by anyone in any car. If so it is a rare case. Porsches have very precise clutchs which last longer than many other super cars such as ferrari, lambo etc......but they still need to be replaced. Do yourself a favor and get the clutch inspected to see how much is remaining on the disk. I can't believe a dealer would tell you they last 80-100k miles. Ridiculous and I would question buying a car from someone like that

also I know a few people who have had problems with the oil pressure sender. The guage displays what the oil pressure is and with a warm engine it should be around 3-4 bar at around 3-4K rpm's Make sure that the oil pressure while driving isn't at the 5 bar otherwise it is probably the sender or worse their could be something wrong with the engine. The sender is a minor fix and should run $200 or so for the part and labor. Not a big deal. Its a good sign to look for. Also look at the tires. These are where money can really be burned. See how much tread is left. You will spend a fortune on tires!!! I am assuming you have 19 inch rims on it. I set of Michelin PS2's will set you back aprox. $2000. Keep that in mind

I have to disagree. I had over 75K on my clutch and it still had plenty of life. Just depends on how you drive the car.

Getting back to the car for sale. In this market there is no reason to by an 05 Carrera with 80k miles period!. That is the worst year for the 997 and you are asking for mechanical issues after you buy the car.

I agree with the poster that the dealer sounds like a fool. Look around and find another car. Look for somthing with around 30k miles and with a warranty. Preferably an 06 (has engine upgrades.)

When I bought my C2S it had 21K on it. They had to fix the RMS issue and I had them look at the clutch. The dealer told me that the clutch is 80% intact and no need for a replacement. It all boils down to, how you drive. 21K and 80% intact means, it can go over 100K if driven in a similar fashion.

i've 60K miles on mine and same clutch. there is a gentleman here in atlanta that has a 2005 C2/S with over 210,000 miles (the last time the service manager saw it). only regular maintenance and SAME clutch.

45,000 miles on my 2006 C4S & 53,000 miles on my 96 Targa an still going strong

I replaced the cltch on my 2000 996 at about 45,000. But I had two air-cooled 911's that went over 100,000 on the orignal clutch and a 928 that went over 90,000. Only 25,000 indicates some poor driving in my opinion.
