Hey guys,

Model: 1999 Porsche Boxster

Lately, there has been a weird hissing noise coming from my AC vent ONLY when the AC is turned ON and the Engine is running. I don't think it's the AC motor because I've opened up the board underneath the passenger side to listen to the AC motor when the hissing noise is occuring and it's not coming from the AC motor.

Also, when I have the AC on with just the ignition being on the "ON" position (engine off), that noise does not occur.

-- The hissing noise only comes when both the engine AND the AC is ON. It is not present when the engine is on and the AC is off. Both has to be on.

I think it may be a fan that has something stuck in it or something along those lines because when I turn off the car, the AC shuts off immediately and but I can still hear the hissing noise slowly go away, sounding kinda like a stuck fan slowing down.

so my question is: What fan turns on when both the engine and the AC is on? Is there anyway that I can access that fan to possibly try and fix this problem? How can I access that fan? Thanks!!

- Mike

Thanks! That answer makes sense, the AC is cold but not as cold as it used to be.

Is recharging the AC easy? Is it a dealer's job?

Anyone know? Thanks!
