Well - been quite a week - sold my 02 Boxster S and after just 1 day of intense withdrawl am looking for another.

I am looking at an 04 Boxster S that has the option codes 665 and 670 for PCM with Navigation - as my 02 did not have this gizmo - and I believe I read on the 996 board daytime running lights could be activated by certain PCMs - is this also true for this car with this PCM. It is a US car and I would import into Canada and require DRL - just hoping I could save $200 if this car is optioned for an easy on/off capability with DRL via this PCM.

Please can the informed - inform me. :) :) :renntech: :renntech:

Haggis,

I recall having seen a Porsche salesman enable the DRL's on a (U.S.) MY06 or MY07 Carrera using the PCM.

You might try researching the owner's manuals (both PCM and car) here on RennTech. I gave a quick look at a MY05 Boxster owner's manual and a MY05 PCM manual but my tolerance for reading manuals is fading as I grow older.

2004 had a relay that needed to be installed if the vehicle had the correct wiring or the wiring socket for the relay jumped. There are several opition including installing a universal DTR module that you can purchase at any autoparts retailer. 2005 and up had the lights controlled via a control module and needed to be activated by the dealer.

I'd like to learn more about how to add DRLs as well.

I looked at the "drl hack", http://www.whiteson.org/boxster/mods/drl/, but it only turns on the front lights.

Has been thinking about using this principle for all the lights.. why would one need a relay? Is it the type that only turn on the lights when the engine is running (and starter is not running?)? I don't mind if they are on from the moment I turn my key - and while starting. That's how it works on my late model BMW, so that should be fine. Both are xenon.. and I don't mind getting a higher amp battery if that is needed.

A 2004 with daytime is wired different and uses a double sized relay. You just can't turn it on if the car was not built with daytime. There is an article on the PCA tech site about this.
