Anti-rattle plate?

Hi all. My friend's 2.5 986 has developed a clunk which seems to come from the driver's side brake. You feel it through the pedals and steering wheel when going over bumps. Having briefly spoken to a local indie garage on the phone, they reckon it's a duff anti-rattle caliper plate (?).

This has been diagnosed without anyone actually looking at the brakes, but we are thinking of overhauling the brakes ourselves anyway with new discs and pads all round.

Does anyone know of this part? Is it available on it's own or is it part of the brake repair kit in the Porsche parts list? Sorry to be so vague! Cheers.

There are anti-rattle clips for the brake pads but they are to stop noise/brake squeal. I would think that you have another fault if it's felt through the steering wheel. Best get it up on a lift to check the control arms/bushing/wheel brngs.

The garage may be referring to the spring plate which pushes the pads down into the caliper. If this broke, if could cause the pads to rattle. However, I think it is pretty unlikely that this part would fail. It is more likely something in the suspension. My car developed a nasty clunking sound over small bumps which was due to busted rubber bushings in the upper strut mounts. The sway bar and drop links would be another good place to check out.

Thanks guys, as we're going to be stripping the brakes down we'll check this out. I'm hoping it's not suspension but we'll see when we get the car raised.
