Car locked. Key and remote fail to open door

HELP!!! The remote on my 01 Boxster S hasn't worked for ages but I haven't bothered to have it replaced since the key in the door worked just fine. When I got home tonight and locked the car with the door key I got the short beep alarm warning. Thinking this was strange I unlocked the door with the key, waited a few seconds, and then locked it again. Same short beep. Getting a bit curious I thought maybe the console wasn't closed securely so I went to unlock the door with the key. The key rotates freely 90* each way but with no effect. It's like it's not turning anything but the lock. Naturally the stupid car is locked up tighter than ****'s hatband and I have no way of getting in to even start looking for the problem.

Ideas???

The one beep isn't the problem at the moment. The fact that the car is locked and I can't get in is the sticky wicket. Ideas?

Did you try replacing the battery in the remote?

Did that when I first bought the car and couldn't get the remote to sync with the car. Was going to just wait until I had to have the car serviced and try and piggy back the computer time to save some bucks.

Bottom line is that even with a new battery in the remote I can't get the door open unless there's another way to get the remote & car synced.

OK, next question. Any way to have a new key head programmed without the car being present? Thought it might save me a tow job because I can't figure out how to get in the car to drive it to the dealer to have the lock fixed and key programmed.

No, as stated here before you need the car, alarm control box, DME, and all of the keys.

The keys get programmed into the alarm box (not the other way around).

I went to a local locksmith with one of my keys. He had a "cloning" machine that was able to program one of his key blanks to duplicate my existing key.

He could not get the remote functions to work, but the cloned key does operate the door locks and starts the car. Cost all of $55 dollars, including cutting the blade on the new key to match the pattern on my existing key.

OMG... I'm such an idiot... you'll probably remember me complaining in other threads related to my alarm doing the "one beep" occassionally.... and I couldn't figure it out. I just lived with it, and said... "bah, it's one beep... and it only does it sometimes... what's the big deal...."

You know what it was? The CONSOLE lid being open! I put a little 2 cup holder modification inside that compartment, and I sometimes have a diet coke can or something else in there, and when I get out, the top of the lid rests on the can... so it's open.

Sure enough, because the lid was open, THAT was the reason I was getting the 1 beep sound occassionally. Because "ocassionally" my lid was open.... I didn't even think about it...
