Hi!

Lately when I press the clutch pedal all the way down, when I release it it gets stuck for half a second or so and then it releases. It also makes a noise as if it gets stuck with something plastic. I feel it getting stuck to something as well. The noise comes from the pedal or the area under the steering wheel.

Any ideas what to look for?

Thanks,

Michael

ps. The car is MY03 996 convertible

Hi Loren! The pedal seems to get stuck (momentarily) at something plastic when it is fully depressed. I then hear the plastic noise and the pedal is released as normal. It is not a squeak, it is more like hitting a metal object on the edge of a hard plastic board.. I don't know how to explain this better.

Does the clutch spring have a top cover around the hole where its piston goes? If so could this be out of place getting in the way of the piston?

Porsche changed the clutch (pedal) spring at least four times as I recall. Your MY03 should have either the last one or next to last one.

Look for binding either on the pedal shaft or the spring mechanism. You can disconnect the spring and see if that is the problem.

Thank you Loren for the diagram. I lubricated every joint with WD-40 and this seems to have done the job!!

I would suggest a silicone based lubricant next time. Chances are the WD-40 will evaporate pretty quickly.
