I am only at 70K miles but have had multiple Battery issues. According to two Porsche Dealerships it is not electrical just not great batteries any suggestions? They want to sell me one for $350.00 which even by Porsche standards seems very high.

I have an Interstate Megatron Plus 85 MPT 91 700 Cold Crank Amps now that needs to be replaced. I need the Very Best Best Best battery so I do not have to deal with this issue anymore. If anyone has had one that exceeded expectations please let me know.

I drive my car about once per week. When not being driven, it is plugged into the Porsche battery maintainer. This will greatly prolong the health of your battery.

Don't buy a $350 battery from Porsche, please.

Use the search tool and you will find many threads on batteries. $350 for a "Porsche" battery? :o Please.......... They are using the same technology as everyone else. No wonder they have the highest profit margins of any car company :P

Either you have had bad luck with old/faulty batteries, or as White987S suggested, it's how you drive your car, and how long it remains garaged. (Since the dealership has determined that there is nothing wrong electrically with the car).

You don't need the "Best" battery, just a good one that range from $50-$70. You definitely don't need a $350 one from the dealership! There is a long battery thread here that is pretty informative and helpful.

unfortunately there has been very little technological breakthrough for standard car batteries. there are options for weight/size/looks, but not much to improve performance and longevity. as said above do not buy Porsche battery. also as implied, the battery will last longer if its charge is maintained. If it goes dead or loses charge, that will significantly affect the longevity. Get a new battery and put a maintainer on it.

You might consider a second opinion. Dealers don't make much money tracking down electrical problems, whereas a battery can be installed in a fraction of the time assumed in the book price.

My car went through 7 batteries in its first six years of life. Dealer each time said that the car was fine, and that it had simply not been driven enough. After number 8, I took it to my indie. It turned out that the car had not one but two Lojack-type devices installed in it by the two previous owners (both at the same dealer), and both devices were still active. That's what was killing the battery. But no dealership mechanic could have made any money solving that problem, not in a flat rate system.

They're out, and the butchered wiring is fixed. Still, the battery is one of only two places in the car where I have deliberately added weight (the other being an amp): I put in a heavy duty 760CCA battery.

I am driving the car 4-5 days a week and round trip is only 5-6 miles each of those days.

either it works or it really doesn't.

jus get the one your indy recommends and enjoy the drive.

Any suggestions on finding an Indy? I just moved to a new area and am having some trouble finding anyone But the local dealer. The first time I went to the local Dealer, Main Line Porsche, the head of Service said he was glad I do not have a very old Porsche becuase they really make theit $ off the cars that are 1995 and newer. This is also the dealer who is looking to charge me 350 for the battery and install.

Yes, I tried the Search tool and the Advanced Search tool both come up with 1,000 plus results..... Yes, it is $350 for the battery however they do have a capachino machine. :)

I have used Bill and his team a couple of times this past year for my '02 996 (state inspection. annual maint., tire work) w/ good results.

I lost two yellow top Optima's to the 911 and I have been using a Advance Auto Gold series battery for two years now, had to have it replaced once as the 911 has has some kind of amp draw in it that kills batteries if you do not drive it. When I had to have the Optima replaced it took the 2.5 months to mail me a replacement, twas not a happy camper. So unless you plan on doubling your HP and hitting the drag, or generally off roading just stick to your closest autoparts house they warranty their batteries and it's easy to get issues handled. HTH

Optima Red 75/25 or 75/35, no tray mods needed and it weighs less than the stock unit. Costco and Pep Boys stock them, you will need to contact Optima directly and request that they send you the "black" Euro adapters (they snap onto the bottom corners for a tighter fit).
