I just installed the iPod cable I ordered from Becker for my '02 Cab and while the audio plays fine, the iPod does not charge. I don't get the flashing battery icon that I normally do. The iPod I am using is a "Mini" and is supposed to be compatible. Has anyone run into this and what would you check? I called Becker and they said they would send another one, but if I can find the issue I will stop them from sending another.

Thanks,

Tony

Tony,

If you mean by "mini" the Ipod shuffle, it is only designed to use the USB voltage for charging, i.e. 5Volts DC. In the case of other Ipods they use 12VDC. SO I'm not sure how getting another cable from Becker will solve this discrepancy. Let us know how you make out on this issue as others I'm sure have faced the same problem.

The model of my iPod is the "mini". It is not the shuffle and it uses the same charger as the classic which I also have and it won't charge either. It was one of the earlier models that was only available as a 4 or 6 gig, but rf remotes and tons of accessories are available for a little of nothing. I have mine in my glove box and use a rf remote to control it once it select the playlist. I have these in all of my vehicles and they work great. I also have a touch 2g and it takes the 5v charger and won't charge from the same charger that my mini or classic does.

I suppose it just has a bad cable or connection in one of the connectors. I will just wait for the new lead to come from Becker.

Thanks,

Tony

After really being puzzled by the issues I was having with the iPod cable from Becker I discovered the problem. The original cable Becker sent me has the polarity reversed on the power leads. This has fried two (2) iPods! They had me connect another iPod to it to confirm it wasn't charging and when it didn't they sent another cable. I downloaded a pinout of the dock connector and compared the cables and the original cable had the polarity reversed.

One of the iPods is damaged is my daughters and the other mine. The reason they would charge from a home charger was they were charging throught the 5 volt firewire terminals and not the 12 volt terminals.

What should I ask them to do? They are the ones that built the cable incorrectly. I installed it per their instructions. I now will have to send both iPods to Apple for repair. Should I ask them to pay for it? I am a motorcycle dealer and when we make a mistake we have to make it good and have many times!

Thanks for the input.
