I have recently noticed that the mechanism which causes the side window to drop/ raise by half an inch when the door is opened or closed has ceased to work on the passenger side of my '01 996 C4 coupe. However the window does become 'fully' closed when the alarm is activated. Therefore, I assume that some sort of sensor has malfunctioned, and not the motor itself. Has anyone experienced similar problems or have any idea where I should be looking to fix this fault?

Many thanks JR.

There is no difference. The window does not lower/ raise if opened/ closed from inside or outside the car. The window remains in the lowered position until the car is locked using the remote control.

If I open my door the window lowers about quarter inch and when I close the door it goes all the way up. I believe it does it either engine is on or off.

I have the identical problem with my 1999 996 passenger door. Various recs to date - possibly a "microswitch in the door handle" vs the regulator. I can't find any solid reference to the location of the purported microswitch, however. If you find out, please let me know. I will do likewise.

My driver door just started it this morning. It will not lower prior to opening and hence when you shut the door, it makes a horrible sound that you know is not right. Upon completing the closing of the door, it will lower itself half way down. I can raise it with the key but it is a pain.
