Warranty ran out 20 days ago and now CEL

Recommended Posts

Warranty just ran out 20 days ago. Have owned car for 2 years w/ no problems. It is a 2005 v6. Check engine light came on after a day of running around town but car ran fine. Next day put $20 in gas in car and upon getting in car and starting it didn't turn over on first try. I gave it some gas on third try and it started. After driving for a few miles I stopped at a stop light and car was fine. Car ran fine until I put gas in today. filled tank and upon turning key to start car kept trying to start but would not turn over fully. I turned key off and tried again. same thing it was trying to start but wouldn't turn over. On third try I gave it some gas and we went up the road. Had to stop at the exit to gas station and car was fine. Drove home fine with no problems in stop and go traffic. Car is sitting in garage waiting for my durametric to arrive but I was wondering if anyone had this happen before or had an idea of what the problem may be. Car runs normally other than on the last two fuelings. thanks guys.

Did the engine crank over fine when all this was going on? It sounds like a failing battery.

Originally the cel came on but car was running normally. Have never had any type of code or problem w/ car in two years. When I refueled the car and tried to start it wouldn't turn over. I gave it some gas on third attempt and it turned over but idled roughly for a minute. I drove about a mile and stopped at stop light. Car was fine. i had only put $20 in car as it was all i had on me. Two days later I went to fill her up and car had driven fine w/ no incidents. After refuelling it once again did not want to turn over. Gave it some gas and we are running fine again. Ordered durametric and waiting to receive. Warranty just ran out May 13. thats the sucky part. thanks

received durametric and here are the codes that I got:

PO455 Evaporative emmission system - Leak detected(large leak) present

PO441 Evaporative emmission system - Incorrect Purge Flow - short to ground or positive

1176 immobiliser key

353 Feedback from blower regulator - front short to ground or positive

907 Load management operat. on vehicle - electrical system/dme module present

1748 Tip switch on steering wheel up present

I cleared all of the codes and took it around the block. I also opened the gas tank and then resealed. Still no check engine light. We will see what happens tommorow. Any tips on these codes. Thanks guys

there could be something wrong with the fuel cap, you can clean it or get a new one, porsche updated the part. Also you could have put bad fuel in the car, if at the gas station rain water gets in the tank, that will cause your engine to hesitate, shake or run rough. That happened to be once with a brand new cayenne, the gas station paid for all repairs. I try never to put gas after heavy rain, I learned my lesson the hard way.

Definitely gonna clean the fuel cap. then maybe i'll have to order a new one from Sunset. I don't think it was bad fuel as I always use premium from same place and the last two times it refused to start after refueling and only did the rough idle when I gassed it to get it started. after running for 15seconds each time, it ran fine for the rest of the tank. It definitely seems that it is something to do w/ the fuel system. HOpefully it is just the cap. Anyone know what all of these codes mean???

Did you have the battery tested as suggested?

I would clear the codes and see which ones come back.

Then focus on the engine fault code(s).

Can they test the battery at Advanced Auto/Autozone or do i have to take it to dealer?

I cleared all of the fault codes and I have driven twice and none have returned althought I have not filled the car up w/ gas yet and that is when I've had my two incidents w/ not starting. Guess we will see as a refuel is needed in the next day or two.

The Autozone/Duralast H8-DLG fits 100% as the original Varta. $133.99. It's the heaviest battery I've seen (50LB)

Don't forget to connect vent tube (L vent hole), and re-use the plug (R vent hole)

You must use 10mm triple square bit for driver seat bolt removal, do not use 10mm torx. It will strip the aluminum screw. It's tightened at very high torque due to threadlocker. Go slow.

My Varta appears to have full charge (built-in hygrometer shows green) but no more capacity. 20 minutes of stereo -> wouldn't crank. (but will crank if I don't use accessories).

Autozone has 3 year replacement / 8 year pro-rated warranty so I suggest to just replace it; it's only $134.

I'm going to bet it's your fuel pump. This happened to my 04 CS with the same symptoms. i believe there are several others who have had the same thing happen. What's really wierd is it happens after fueling up. Just a hunch............. <_<

Scott

I can't remember the exact amount but it was over $1000 usd. We were under warrenty and had a private shop do it. They said the tank had to come out.

I think one fuel pump is used to prime the engine when you first start it up ( most likely this is the bad one ). The other is for once you are running. (Dont quote me on any of this). If you do a search you can find more info. You should hear a buzz before you start the car up when when the engine is cold. I think our car starts the fuel pump when you open the door. Some of the other members have gone to the fuse panel to help troubleshoot which pump is the cause. Good luck.
