Wonder if someone could tell me which clutch kit I should buy when it comes time to do my clutch. My car is a 2000 996 which had the 3.4. I put in a 2003 3.6. Should I buy the 2000 3.4 replacement or the 2003 3.6 replacement? Is there much difference? Are they interchangable?

Thanks in advance.

You have to order the clutch assembly which is conform with the engine (MY03 - 3.6 Litre)

You should check with Roock on waht they used for the Flywheel and Pressure plate. I am pretty sure that the Flywheel changed from the 3.4 to the 3.6, can't tell from PET, although it does show a different pressure plate. In watching the light weight flywheel discussion I thin they say there is a different number of bolts for the flywheel to crankshaft connection. Roock should be able to teel you having done the conversion.

Not exactly true.

All the 996 cars (with the exception of the GT3) use the same flywheel and clutch disk, the only difference in the two kits is the pres. plate and corresponding release bearing.

However the dif release bearing may be due to the dif part number for the 2002-on transmission vs the pre-2002 trans and not the pres. plate. You will have to figure that out.

The clutch kit on these swaps is not dictated by the engine, but by the flywheel and trans. Clearly the clutch kit for your car will work (2000) but obviously it makes sense to use the higher clamping force 3.6 pp if you can.

As Todd said...

Items 1, 2 and 5, (release lever, release bearing, and pressure plate are different for MY02 and newer cars).

Flywheel does not change for any 996.

Thanks everyone for their input ;)

So I have the AASCO LWFW. So I would be good using the 2003 disk, pressure plate and TOB?

Also when looking at prices for the kits there are different choices with much different prices. Any input on this? Here is a link for several Sachs direct replacement kits. The top one is least expensive and seems to be the correct OEM replacement. Is this the one I want? I still of course have the 2000 trans. I don't track the car.
