Does anyone have any tips for finding a comfortable seating position with manual sport seats?

I bought a 2008 C2 coupe with manual sport seats in August of last year and have not yet been able to find a comfortable seat position. I'm not a big guy (6' 190 lbs), but every time I drive the car for an extended period, I end up with a terrible neck ache. The problem is the headrest and the shoulder bolsters. I've started by adjusting the seat bottom so that I can comfortably operate the clutch. When I adjust the seat back so that I can reach the wheel, the shape of the seat and the fixed head rest wont let me sit with my neck straight. This is my first porsche, so maybe I'm just not used to the proper seating position.

Any help would be appreciated. :)

I'd keep working at it. It took me a while to adjust mine so I could get my fat legs under the wheel! (I dropped the seat down a notch or two) Bear in mind too, that your arms should be bent more than slightly at the elbow and not straight out. You might also try shifting your hand position on the wheel. I use the "Italian style" with hands at the 4 and 8 o'clock positions, and it's very comfortable. You can also make broad hand gestures more easily when conversing with your passenger....

I'm with Rick here... I too have the manual sport seats and HATE it when other's (service center, car wash, etc) move my seat around because its a PAIN getting it back to the optimal position.

how I configure my seat is, first as you do I sqeeze the clutch pedal and adjust how far back I want the seat, then (4 & 8 or for me more 3 and 9) on the wheel until my arms are comfortable then I adjust the height on the seat... let go of everything, sit back in move around a bit and re-adjust anything that needs it.

I went to my porsche dealer this morning 2.5 hours there and 2.5 back - and I feel rested :)

I am 6' and 180 lbs, pretty close to terryp88. I gave up on sport seats because of the awful shoulder constriction that made me hunch my shoulders no matter what the seat position. Assuming 9x7 sports seats are similar to 9x6 seats.

To me it is a shame that the sport seats concentrate on shoulders rather than lumbar and seat bolstering, which would help hold you in the seat against lateral g-forces much better than shoulder bolsters. I think they went with ease of entry.

As far as seat position - the primary factor in how far the pedals should be from the seat is the brake pedal. At full braking force on the pedal the knee should still be bent. This is to ensure that you leg is not straight upon an impact resulting in shattered bones.

As was also posted elbows should be at least slightly bent to prevent stress on the neck and shoulders.

70Sixter, I think you are right about the shoulder bolsters. They are making me hunch my shoulders which is causing the discomfort. I too may have to give up on the Sport Seats. Did you switch to Porsche standard seats or an aftermarket seat?

I came to my conclusion in trying out new cars on dealer lots. Really hit me when I went directly form one to the other and back in quick succession. So I scratched sport seats off my "want" list and "willing to have"list" and put them on my "no way" list.

I've stayed with stock seats and find them adequate and comfortable even on long trips. I really like the heated seat option and had it on my "gotta have" list from day one. There are some nice aftermarket or Porsche GT seats, but too expensive for me at this point.
