Hi, I'm looking to import a 2005 or 06 boxster S from the US into Canada and was wondering what would be involved in swaping the speedo gauge to correctly display kms instead of miles ? Any help with cost and procedure is helpful. I know I could just use the tach digital speed display if its too much work or too expensive. I assume the digital speed display is a standard feature ?

Also, does anyone know if Porsche Canada will honour remaining factory warranty on a US car including a Pre-owned Porsche Ceritified warranty?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure about the speedo, but Porsche Canada will honour warranty only if it was purchased directly from the person selling the Porsche or from an actual Porsche dealership, if you purchased through a broker or any other than Porsche dealership, then warranty is void.

I just use the digital gauge for kms. From what I know if you swap out the gauges you'll lose the actual milage reading of your car.

The digital kms/miles window will pass the RIV inspection fwiw.

Thanks for the information.

As far as the warranty question, did you mean that Porsche Canada will honour it if you buy it private from the owner or does it have to be private from the original owner ?

I understand its honoured if bought at a US Porsche Dealer but is that just remaining new factory warranty only or will they also honour any Certified Pre-owned Porsche warranty (usually 2 years).

Thanks

There is no reason to swap. You can get the digital display to switch from English to Metric. That includes speed, fuel consumption, tire pressure and outside air temperature. Here's how:

SET Basic setting on on-board

computer

Switching on selection eld “D”

Push operating lever forward.

Changing the basic setting of the on-board

computer

Select “SET” with the operating lever.

Push operating lever forward.

Select the desired function with the operating

lever:

Reset

– Reset all,

– Reset average consumption,

– Reset average speed,

– Reset trip counter

Units

– Speedometer: km - km/h, miles - mph

– Consumption: l/100 km, mls/gal (USA), mpg

(UK), km/l

– Temperature: Celsius, Fahrenheit

– Tire pressure: bar, psi

The face gauges will still be in MPH not KPH - but that is his choice.

That's true. But when was the last time you looked at your analog speedo? The gauge is too small and tightly calibrated to be of much use.

You have no issues bringing in an '05 and up. As previously noted you will be able to display your speed digitally in Kms. The one thing you will have to do as well is the daytime running lights. This can be programed at a Porsche Dealer in less than 5 minutes. They'll do it for nothing if they want your business.

The import process is easy, just brought up an '05 to Canada in January. :)
