I have searched this high and low and did not come up with a definite answer.

I am looking at an 2006 Turbo but it does not have a factory hitch. I tow a 7000 lbs boat and need the factory hitch.

Will this fit the Cayenne?

Touareg Towing Package

Also, my trailer has LED lighting, I read that causes issues. Can anyone also help with a fix for this?

Thanks for any help you can give. My wife is going to kill me if I bring this truck home and it costs $2k to install a hitch. I need to be sure what works properly with this truck.

That will not do it. You can get the hitch hardware from CURT for about $175, but the electrical parts are going to cost you around $400, plus a dealer visit to program the car, you will save a lot if you DIY but I would look for one with the tow hitch already on. $2K does not go far on these cars.

Like I said in the original post. I do not want the aftermarket hitch. I pull 7000lbs. That hitch will not do it.

I read someware that the Touareg Kit is the same but I cannot find it now.

Anyone else know?

I just purchased the Porsche OEM Kit from Jeff at Sunset and cross checking with a local VW store on compatibilty , found its the same identical hitch, but you might not get all the part "VW no longer includes ball, receiver or hitch pin. Our Deluxe Towing Accessory Kit has all you need." .

I did the install myself and saved on dealer labor charges . Got dealer to do hitch programming for free.

Total cost about less than $1K .It took time to Install on Cayenne S 2004 with sensors, but i did a pretty good job with extra pair of hands to help. It took us 6 hrs to finish.

hey guys, dont mean to hijack the thread. i am looking to do the same thing for my wifes 04 cayenne s. i heard others mention that as well as the all the requisite wiring, additional items recommended are transmission and oil coolers????? not really sure what they are or how they are intstalled???

as far as the hitch install, from what i have gathered it looks like the curt hitch with the factory wiring harness seems like the way to go. this may seem like a silly question but what exactly does the wiring harness do other than control the lights on the trailer. i have heard that it switches the transmission to "tow mode", not sure if that is accurate or not.

my last point if the wiring does only control the lighting on the trailer and not anything to do with the operation of the mechanics of the transmission, than couldnt one just splice the wires somewhere to gain access to the tailights and have the vehicle tow just like any other vehicle????

any additional input would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

mike
