Hi all,

I replaced the battery on my 2006 911 Cab.

Unscrewed the bolt that holds the battery down, and replaced the battery.

When it came to screwing the bolt back in, I expected the lower piece to be threaded, but it isn't.

So - must have been a nut underneath, of which there is now no sign :(

My question: can somebody describe what it looked like originally?

haha, sorry not laughing at you, but the same thing happened to me! you have the wrong size battery! the one you got is slightly wider than your old one, so you need to get a replacement of the correct size and your issue will be no more :)

remove the battery and you'll see a second hole appx an inch to the inside of the non-threaded hole

There are two or three holes for the battery to bolt to. I used a Johnson controls battery which is sold by Auto zone and Wal-mart(Wal-mart is cheaper- same battery) There is a 48L which will fit in one of the holes with a weld nut and there is the 49L which will fit in the hole with out a nut. The 48L is the same size as a stock battery but their application chart says this is for a 996 and maybe a Non S 997. They sell you the 49L which is slightly longer or wider depend on how you look at it.

Long story short I put a 49L in my 06 C2S then used an aircraft style nut with the stock bolt and carfully lined it up with the hole and started the bolt. Works fine. I bought the nut at Autozone.

I had the same problem. Bought the Bosch group 94-R from Pep Boys. EXACT replacement. No problems with bolts. Good luck

Ditto. And I am happy to confirm that the Bosch 94-R is an EXACT replacement for the OEM battery in the 1997 997tt.

Reading this thread with great interest as this is the same problem with my new ride, a 2007 997S. It arrived with a dead battery that could not be revived. Anyway, the OEM battery CCA is too low for this outpost of Vancouver, Canada. Also Amp-Hr. capacity too low for the power this puppy sucks up. So I had a 49L installed with 895CCA but of course, the outer hole is missing a hold down nut. We positioned a nut under the pan with a matching bolt and voila. No worries for the next 5-7 years, I hope. Also bought a Battery Tender to maximize battery life.

BTW, this is a grreat forum :renntech:
