I have a hard time unpluging the wire harness. Is there a trick to it? Any clips that hold it in place?

I would appreciate a quick reply since the car is all "opened up" :)

I always undo the two screws and lift the MAF out of the housing before unplugging the connector. It means you can see the clip, which can be difficult with it in place (especially on a 996 C4).

Thanks Richard.

I removed the MAF but the plug is stuck there. Do I press the clip inwards to release the plug? IT is just not moving.

If you aren't changing it, you can clean it in place. Just put a rag underneath to catch the excess cleaner.

Strange that you are struggling to unclip it though. I think there are two types of clip, but it is usually fairly obvious once you get it in your hands.

Edit: this shows the early MAF, where you just squeeze the connector, but the later one is a bit more tricky.

I use pliers with a rag to protect the plastic clips (early design which Richard illustrated.) Gently squeeze with the pliers on the squesze clips and simultaneosly pull up on the connector with the other hand.

You are supposed to be able to squeeze the clips with your fingers but I have never been able to do it. (at least on my two 996's)

Richard and Phillip,

I appreciate the help and guidance. If there was an emoticon for "chicken" I would have used it here right now.

I chickened out and put everything back together.

Your plug looks a bit different from my 986....in the 986 there is what looks like a single clip in the long side of the plug.

I wonder how this releases.

Thanks again,

Thanassis
