Looking for a C4S

I am looking to buy a used C4S in about 3 to 4 years old, can someone to tell is there a certain year model I should avoid? Is there a certain common problem on that particular model? Is it a reliable car? I learned my lesson, I bought a CPO 04 Cayenne S , I thought even it is so called "under warranty" , there are still alot of things not covered, so this time I think I should do a little more research.

I think that you should always go for the newest one you can afford. Have a PPI done by a Porsche expert to look for issues. Have a compression check and also check for over-revs (Porsche tester.) Always look for oil leaks (RMS) and make sure the car has all service records. Carfax is good. Don't buy a car that has been tracked (at least I wouldn't.)

My biggest recommendation is to BE PATIENT! Look at lots of cars!! There are some amazing deals out there right now. If you have cash you are king.

If you stay on top of maintenence these cars are very reliable and trouble free. This board has saved me from thousands in uneccessary repairs.. Learn to do things yourself and it will serve you well.

And definetly get an extended warranty. Although it's unlikely 996 engines do fail (mine did) even with low miles. If you have a warranty you will have some piece of mind.

I should avoid 997 MY 05 for various mechanical and electronic reasons, MY 06 have a much better engine (up dated design intermediate shaft+bearing, RMS seal) and most of the control boxes are up dated as well (different part #).
