Spark plug change time

Guys. Today is spark plug change out. First time for me doing that. 2003 2.7 Boxster.

I did unscrew and remove a coil. I can see the spark plug at the end of the tunnel, but where is that spark plug tube?? I did buy a replacement one with orings, but the new one can't enter the hole?

What's wrong with me?

Hard for me to tell from the picture, but I'm guessing the "spark plug tubes" are there (they fit snug inside the actual tube, and it's hard to distinguish whether they are really there or not in the first place). In any case, to remove the spark plug tube and see if it's actually there, get a long screw driver (preferably one that's older) that has a nice thick butt (handle) on it. Insert it butt end first into the tube until it's snug. Take a pair of lock jaw pliers and grab on to the silvery shaft of the screwdriver. Try pulling at a 45 degree angle (not straight out) and this should pop the tube enough for you to take the rest of it out with your fingers.

The black plastic tubes are used in the older cylinder head designs > MY02, they are not longer used from MY03.

But I don't understand why parts company are selling those tubes even if we enter MY 03?

Is it that hard to do the sparkplugs on one of these babies? Will normal splug wrenches with extensions not work?

Where is all that oil / grunge from? Leaky valve cover or something like that?

No. Yes, normal tools with the proper extensions will work fine. See the DIY here on this site.

Hard to say, could have been a leaking oil filler tube. That is not normal - there is a leak somewhere or someone didn't clean up after fixing a leak.

Did the plug change out. Need some time , correct tools and a little workout to play around all pipes and other stuff. I'm the owner of that car since less that 1 year, so I don't know when that oil on the block appear. It's only on driver side. Did use a citrus type degreaser to remove that oily stuff you see and motor block is now sparkling new. Will take a close look later in the season and see if oil re-appear.
