Any one know how to remove the rear spoiler, there are 3 screws holding the bumper cover on under the spoiler but I cant squeeze a screw driver in either with the spoiler up or down

There are 3 black plastic rivets that have a pin in the middle. Push the pins out with a small straight punch or the end of a small drill bit and they will fall into the spoiler. Then you can lift the top off the spoiler. Then remove the 2 allen bolts that hold the metal body in place and the pins will inside it.

Once the metal body of the spoiler is removed you can get to the screws holding the top of the rear bumper cover in place.

I wasn't able to remove the rivets without destroying 1 but other than that all went well. I'll be posting a new hack soon..my new $150 bike/ski rack and or trailer hitch for anyone interested.

I'm adding a decal to the rear spoiler on my 987 S & it would appear to be easier to apply if I remove the spoiler.

Question : Are those three rivets re-useable ?? or should I order new ones first ?? assume available through dealers ?? If re-useable, can you describe re-installation ???

The first time I removed a spoiler almost 6 years ago was also to put a sticker on. I reused the rivets. Just push the pins back in.

I have not seen these rivets on the 2003/4 facelift and not sure how to remove the spoiler on those years.

When I looked at the 987 when it first came out I noticed the rivets were being used again, just like 1997-2002. So let us know how to remove a 987 spoiler.

For sake of completeness I can advise on spoiler removal for 2003 Boxster S.

No rivets used (as is already known). Proceed as follows:

1: Raise spoiler manually using footwell switch

2: Spolier has two plastic 'end-caps' inserted into the steel part, remove these caps using small screw driver or fingers.

3: Look down the length of the spolier through the gap created by the end-cap removal and you will see the two plastic pegs (one near each end) which retain the Painted part onto the steel part.

4. insert a long thin flat blade screwdriver into the steel part and gently lever the peg back whilst gently lifting the plastic part upwards - disengaging the peg, repeat for the oppsite end.

5. The plastic part can now be removed slightly upwards and rearwards, sliding off the plastic lugs at bottom/rear of the plastic part

6. Use suitable Allen key to remove the steel part from the steel supporting pillars (can be quite tight as they are 'thread-locked' in place).

When re-assembling pay particular attention to engaging all the lugs at the bottom/rear of the plastic part before snapping the pegs back down into place.

The above method removes the possiblity of breaking the plastic locating pegs on removal by the 'rip it out' method!

A slight improvement on wellsm's technique on removing the spoiler on a 2003 or 2004 Boxster S.

Under the rear edge of the wing you will find 4 small holes. Rather than removing the end caps, you can insert a screwdriver into each of these holes in turn, and press while lifting the front edge of the painted part. Pressing will move a plastic hook (molded into the inside of the painted part) off of the metal catch built into the wing.

If you remove the end caps and move the hooks on the two ends, that will work, but you'll find there are two additional hooks in the middle of the painted part, and those you can release by inserting a screw driver through the hole beneath the rear edge of the painted part.

You might want to pry off an end cap and watch as you release the end hook with a screw driver. That will help you understand what you're doing and how hard to press. If you press too hard, you could break the hook.
