What are the issues with 997 series engines( 3.6,3.8) being fitted to 996? Would trans bolt straight on ( Tip in particular but are also interested in manual fit) . What would need to be with engine that is not interchangeable? Thx in advance.

I am not an expert but believe it will bolt in no problem. The car has to have e-gas pedal 2000.5 and up, I think there are differences with the air con/power steering connection and I'm not sure but you would have to change the DME (engine computer). Any one else? I understand you can get a 997 3.6 cheaper than a 996 3.4 or 3.6 from Porsche.

Just to clarify on the cost of a 997 3.6 and 3.8. from Porsche. Yes the cost is lower that a 996 3.6 but the core charge is huge. :o Unless you have a 997 3.6 or 3.8 to exchange it doesn't make any sense financially. Give the guys at Sunset or Suncoast a call and you will see what I mean.

I have seen some great deals on 997 3.8's from Porsche Dismantlers on E-Bay. Probably a better way to go if you want to do a swap. Just make sure the 997 engine is the new design 2006 +.
