While I was at the dealer today getting a replacement AOS ($84) and I asked the service department to run my VIN for my option codes. I had the front hood replaced and lost the sticker. The print out I got has a bunch of info that I have a few questions on.

Invoice date 1: 1998-07-06

Invoice date 2: 1998-06-17

New vehicle warranty started on 1998-07-20

And it says that the car is model year 1998.

The VIN date code is X which I believe is 99.

RennTech's VIN decoder says it is a 1999.

The door name plate indicates a June 1998 manufacture date.

Do I have a '99?

I couldn't find info on four of the option codes: 032 230 273 710

Can one tell by the engine number if it is the one that came with the car? #65W16227

Also, I have a A209 Campaign with status 1. I assume that is a recall but can't find what it is.

Thanks for any help.

Regards,

derb

:welcome:

What is your VIN?

I will run it for you.

M032 is standard suspension.

M273 is electrically adjustable heated door mirrors.

A209 was the gas cap recall.

They were supposed to put a sticker on the car when they did the recall (stating it was done).

Thanks Loren.

I'll check the gas cap for the part number.

Very interesting that your VIN says it is a MY99 and Porsche's database says MY98...

That's very odd. Plus, I just lost money.

Thanks for your help.

I have a June 1999 build Carrera and it is a MY1999.

So, perhaps you just accidentally got a MY99 VIN assigned to a MY98 car - talk about being the last one off the production line for that (model) year.

There were almost no changes for MY98 to MY99 so very little differences.

I think the door sticker says a June '98 build. Must have been shipped over fast because the warranty began on July 20, 1998.

Do you have the range of serial numbers for 1998?

Not to hijack this thread, I have a vin question.

The my vin number on the left side battery tray (facing the battery) has an * after the number. I seem to recall it means something but damned if i can recall what.

Yes, that location seems to have a * before and after the VIN.

I called PCNA and they confirmed a build date of June 18, 1998 and the car is a '99. Guess the database says it is a '98 so the dealer can order the right parts for it. So now I need to start ordering parts for a '98 for my '99.

Based on my serial number my car appears to be the 731st off the line for the 99s. The warranty started on July 20, 1999. Isn't that kind of early for a new model year car to be sold (punched)? Could it have been a demo? That doesn't sound like a good thing other than the fact that any abuse would have brought out any issues with the engine. The engine serial number is also for a '98 so it's probably still the original engine. 95k miles- knock on wood.

Don't mean dwell on this, just curious about my car.

I would take the VIN# as reference instead of the data base to order parts, much easier to prove in case of wrong parts delivery.
