Did my oil change last october rising left back side of the car to unscrew oil plug & filter and lower it to help oil to exit motor. There is a great discount this week for a pair of plastic ramps. Question: If I put the rear of the car on ramps, does oil will exit motor with the same efficiency that if I level the car?

An oil change should be done on a, as close as possible, flat surface (floor) or a lift. It's not possible to drain all the engine oil with the rear of the car up.

You can keep the car level

and raise the rear further into the air by using ramps and doing the oil change on a hill with the rear of the car positioned to the low side. You can also make your own ramps from scrap lumber. 2 by 12s

I am wondering if anyone has used four ramps to raise the car while maintaing it level for an oil change.

4 ramps or 4 jack stands - you really only need to raise the car a few inches for an oil change.

I jack my car up, then lower it to drain the oil. Only problem I have is the car is so low, it sits on (and starts to crush) my plastic drain container.

I have to drive it up on 2X4s just to get the floor jack underneath, so maybe I should raise the front wheels, as well.

I'll be doing the oil again in the next couple weeks, because I wish to install my new LN billet filter adapter and can filter (Mobil M1-107)...hopefully I won't lose too much of the fresh Royal Purple I put in last fall.

How, exactly, would 4 ramps work? Really short ramps? Or are you just talking about using the ramps as jackstands?

Once, I was able to get both right wheels of my lawn tractor up on ramps to get to the blades easier, but that also involved lifting up the lawnmower to put the ramp under the rear wheel. I don't think I can lift my Porsche...

Car is stiff enough to jack up one side then stick the jack stands under the proper places and then go to the other side.

I am jacking the car up on the rail under the car. Just cut up a hockey puck and it works great.

Oh, I know about using 4 jackstands... I was wondering how to drive onto 4 ramps ;)

I use 2 x 10's - I just drive up on a stack that goes from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 (in steps).
