Green Instrument Cluster Plug

I was looking into a cluster transplant to add a Carerra cluster (oil pressure gage) and I broke the "ears" off the green plug that helps lock the plug in place. I assumed (I know) that the plug would be fine with out it, but when Istarted the car I got a Batt light, no left turn signal, no fuel indication and no oil level indication. So, my cluster is out, and waiting to get a new plug.

There is a part number on the plug 999.650.507.40 as well as an AMP part number.

Is that the Porsche part number I need?

2003 Boxster S US spec, 6 speed.

That number doesn't come up on a price search here, or in a PET lookup.

If it is a 32-pin connector, and you don't mind it being grey instead of green, this VW part might be a substitute.

That VW part is similar, however, the three plugs are indexed to keep you from putting them in the wrong hole, besides the color code. The indexs on that VW part are wrong. The numbers on the green plug are:

right side:

1-929497-1

pbt-6f-20

left side:

amp 1-929409-1

There is a 32-pin green plug, which might be the one you need.

During install of a four stalk kit to enable OBC, I broke the grey connector. This unfortunate event then began a frustrating on-again, off-again two year search for the correct replacement.

The good, and persistent, people at Sunset Porsche came to the rescue and were able to track down the correct part. Please give Chris a call at Sunset.

The part is actually sold as a three plug set and the part number is PNA72104300202 (32 PIN Socket Housing). This means that you will get a blue, green and grey plug. On a side note, there are subtle molded differences with each colored plug, so you can only slip a green plug into a green socket. Chris had to special order the set from Germany, but the cost was not huge....less than $25 with shipping.

Go talk to a service person at your local Porsche dealership. They have toolboxes full of replacement plugs to use in case one breaks while they're working on a car. The plugs aren't listed in the computer, but they can fish through and find you the one you're looking for.
