Picked up a new Porsche OEM short shifter today on ebay, sold by Braman Motorsports (a Porsche dealer in West Palm Beach), for $300. It comes with the housing, unlike the B&M, and for this little extra I thought it was worth sticking with OEM and that the housing may make for an easier install (not that the B&M install seems difficult). Pic below. Braman says they will continue to list on ebay and might give better deals than their normal $350 price if you asked. [Javier in parts, 561-615-4877; no affiliation with them]

I have searched here and rennlist (though probably not thoroughly enough) and haven't found any DIY instructions specific to the Porsche SSK with the housing. Does anyone know where I can find them? I also saw a recent thread that said there is a special Porsche tool to check the shifter adjustments (the poster had to replace his B&M shifter with the factory before the dealer would check his transmission) - wondering whether this means its better to spend $100 or so to have the dealer install it correctly?

thanks boxer6

your post was helpful.

they must sell a lot of these.

can't dispute the price for OEM equipment.

they also were quite pleasant to deal with.

jeff,

I had the dealer put one in a couple months ago and it is very hard to get into reverse and often pops out of reverse if you take your hand off. I intend to take back to see if it can be adjusted.

I was just about to buy one of these OEM short shifters, but I hate trouble shooting mods.

I haven't had any problem with short shifter. It's been wonderful for about 400-500 miles so far. When I installed mine I used same location of original screw thread for the two adjustable cables. If you want, go to my other post and get the screw thread location number and try that setup.
