I have a 05 ctt and am wondering how much is too much when it comes to adding oil? I have to add a quart every 700 or so miles, and im wondering if that is abnormal. The other day I was driving it a little hard and when I let off the gas I saw some white smoke in the rear view. Is that normal?? Also on the drivers side from the turbo all the way up to the the intake the inside of the boost hose is lined with oil but the passenger side is complety dry. Do the turbos need to be replaced after a period of time , the truck has 60k on the odometer.

You should bring the oil level to the full mark. Then drive 1,000 miles, and report the exact oil burn to your indy or dealership. Then a basis can be established, and corrective action implemented, if necessary.

Not sure of the exact numbers, but I think Porsche considers 1.5 quarts per 1,000 miles acceptable for the Cayenne. I just saw this issue raised in Pano during a Q1 2009 issue. Not sure of the exact month.

Turbos should, and do, last much longer than 60,000 miles.

Good question, I just filled up with a litre of oil, and it usually needs it every 2-3 fill ups. I replaced the plenum (IPD) and noticed the oil as well.

I'm not sure how much burning is normal, but I assume the turbos bleed some oil. I will ask the dealership how much is normal, and oil in the intake system is normal as well.

Will post when I found out.

Correction.

Here is the spec Porsche uses per Peter Smith, PCA.org Tech Q&A:

1.6 qts (1.5 liters) per 625 miles (1,000 km).

That's a lot of oil burn, and still considered "in spec", IMHO.

Are you driving really hard? Even within spec, still seems to be alot of oil. My 2005 CTT burns about 1 qt for every 2K miles. My 2008 CS burns about 1.5 quarts per 2K miles.

No I dont drive hard at all. It doesnt seem to be dependent on how I drive it . I am more concerned about the oil in the intake line on the drivers side. I guess I will have to make an appointment and have her checked out. When the drivers side is lined with oil and the passanger side is bone dry there has got to be some issue there with one side or the other.

The left and right turbo have a different lubrication system design, the left turbo oil return pipe will partial clogged faster than the right side by his specific design. All Cayenne turbo suffers with this problem at approx. 80.000Km, clean the oil lines first before any possible turbo replacement take place.

Thanks RFM. What is involved with cleaning those oil lines in the turbos? Also if you dont mind, what is the lifespan of a turbo on a cayenne? Just wondering when they need to be rebuilt. Mine just turned 60k

Turbo lifespan (engine in good condition, no mods done, etc.) is over 150.000 Km, exceptions can not be excluded, it's still a mechanical part. Remove the oil lines and clean them from oil residues.
