In short, any body have any recommandations for indy guys in around San Francisco area that knows Porsche well enough and have correct dealer diagnostic tools (PST2 etc etc. ) to work my MY99 C2, that don't charge arms and legs like Rector. I need to change out my cam actuator

After extend testing and reading, I have finally ruled out all sensor and wire related possibilities of my P1539 code. Now I am ready to shell out some $$$$ to get my actuator replaced, I can do it myself but I just don't want to invest the money and time to buy the special tools and engine hoist.

I had Marvin at The Rennshop in Santa Clara do a PPI for me recently. He's fantastic. Highly recommended. He definitely went above and beyond the call of duty.

You've got a fair number of suggestions....you might also Google The Stable in the SF area as a potential spot....might be closer to you but you don't indicate where you actually live.

The trouble with the SF area is that you're going to run into hourly rates of $120-160....the cost of doing business in an expensive city with a Porsche tax on top of it.

I also recommend Marvin at The Rennshop in Santa Clara. He is very knowledgable and really cares about what he does. Unlike the dealer where they just take your money and boot you out the door he takes the time to explain things and actually takes the time to look at your car instead of dismissing your problem. http://www.therennshop.com/ I recently had him replace some seals and replace the clutch as well as some work with the suspension.

Another vote for Marvin Weitz at the Rennshop if you want to go to Santa Clara. He has a PST2 and factory tools. Worked at Stevens Creek Porsche and Carlsen Porsche before opening his own shop.

If you are in San Francisco this is where I go...Bought a a '99 996 6 months ago and they've been helping me sort out the car. He also works on my VW Touareg.

It is a straight forward shop, nothing fancy, but very knowledgeable and good work what a shop should be in my opinion. Good prices.

He has done my clutch, RMS, intermediate seal, pan gasket and a MAF.

Not sure where in the Bay Area you are, but I'd second the recommendation for Bauer in Oakland. I've been out of the Bay Area for a few years, but they did great work on both my 1970 S and 993.
