I wonder anyone has experience of fixing this.

Say the weather is hot. my 1999 996's outside temperature reading says 62F (of course not) and my automatic A/C is blowing hot air. The only way to override it is the set the A/C temperature setting to LO.

Is this an easy fix? Really don't want to go back to the dealer that charged me $7k last time.

No expert on this but isn't the AC temp monitored/set and adjusted using the in dash temp controller? Is this the part that needs to be replaced. I have seen these on ebay going for $100.

Cheapest thing is probably to check/replace the outside temp sensor in the front bumper air intake, passenger side. Also worth looking at the interior temp sensor in the passenger side air vent.

Replacing the outside and inside sensors seems like reasonable. The control unit may still be good. The temperature reading on the instrument panel doesn't seem right. Must be the outside temperature sensor then.

OK.. where the this little guy?

Outside temp sensor is in the passemger side grill in the front bumper. You can see it standing in front of the car; it's a little pointy black plastic bit. It pops into a plastic ring holder; just push/wiggle to remove, then unplug.

Thanks guys.. I finally bought the workshop CD from eBay. Found out there are a few sensors for controlling the A/C. Outside sensor, blower outlet, interior sensor, Sun sensor. quiet a few to check.

Is there anything similar to OBD-2 software/tester to quickly find out what's going wrong?
