I have found a lot of oil on the top of my engine after storing for the winter. Had to top up the power steering reservoir and I don't know where the leak comes from. Could it from the reservoir itself? Is there a DIY for this repair?

This is my first post

It could be a leak from the joint just under the reservoir. Have you had any work done on the car lately? Often the last place touched is the first place to look.

I recently discovered that the latch connecting the reservoir to the pipe below was not properly latched. The two tabs should line up. That may not be it but it is fairly easy to check and easy to fix.

Good day,

I just took my 01 986 out of winter storage yesterday and brought it to the dealer for a quick check (courtesy of my local PCA organization).

All is well, except...

I have a bit of a power steering fluid leak at the boots (I suspect as a result of winter storage), took it to the local dealer and they said that I needed to replace the steering rack ( $1200 + approx $880 for R&R and alignment + tax)... this seems a little excessive for a boot leak. If necessary, can just the boots be replaced?

Thanks.

The boots are in fact dust protectors, the leaking seals are located inside the rack. A rebuild rack can help you out.

Thanks for the response, I'll go ahead with the rebuild.

Why not monitor the amount of leakage? It could be nothing major and the leak compounded by the cold weather.
