i'm trying to upgrade my stereo and i can't seem to find an answer/solution regarding front door speakers. i've got a 2001 996 c4 without door speakers. while i realize fitting speakers not an issue, finding a reasonable speaker grille solution is. some tell me new door panels with factory grilles is the best option but that's expensive! others have told me i can just get the grilles but they seem to be (obviously) quite different in size as compared to the pockets that are there now. i could probably make something, but i feel there is an obvious solution i'm missing. LA dis. wants to sell me just the grilles and says i can use them in the panels i have but it doesn't make sense as i cant see how they would integrate with my existing (and mint) panels. on the other hand, would porsche make two completely different forms for cars with and without door speakers? plus, it seems like the cars wired for front speakers. thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Any good shop (like ) can modify the door panels.

Those grills are fabricated.

Those grills are fabricated.

I don't think the factor grills will work that well since they are to be used in conjunction with the stock bass enclosures and speakers.

Wrong forum area - but is making custom door grills for a Boxster 986 without speaker holes in the door trim (ie no Bose or Sound Package Plus) also possible? Or does the expensive "hifi option" trim have to be purchased? In the Boxster there is no map pocket where the speaker is meant to be.. just flatness.

Thanks

EDIT: Have seen this post here which is great but talk more about "cicumventing" the door speakers: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=15833
