Electrical short smell, front speakers ticking, smoke...

I searched topics and while this seems similar to some other folk's amp issues, it doesn't quite make a match...

I started the '04 Cayenne S today and I first noted a strange "ticking" evident in the front door speakers only, not in any others. In order to hear better to try and figure out what was causing the sound I turned the heated off and just then I smelled an "electrical short" smell, never good. I noticed what I'm pretty sure was a faint wisp of smoke coming from the climate control panel area. I had only traveled a couple of blocks so returned to the driveway and turned the car off promptly. The ticking sound continued in the front speakers only, even with the car shut off. After about 5-mins it stopped on it's own.

It's a constant "click-click-click" that didn't really change frequency or volume.

I didn't start the car but turned it back to accessory and the ticking started again so I shut it off again. No further smells or smoke thankfully.

Two days prior I was driving at night and my stereo lights all flickered on and off a few times, but no other lights did, they all remained on as normal. Possibly related, I have no idea.

My car does not have Navigation, just the basic setup, and I have had no aftermarket sound or other work done.

It's going to be dropped at the dealer but has anyone had this set of symptoms before?

I've not heard of anything like this before, I hope it's not anything serious.

Dealer today indicated it was the amplifier, no explanation for the smell/smoke.

I have a couple of questions, the service manager who aided me was very helpful but told me Porsche would not perform a courtesy repair for a TSB issue unless it's within a year of warranty and only to the original owner.

His suggestion was to replace with factory amp (I've read some people have had to have theirs replaced multiple times) or to replace entire system with aftermarket. Lots of decisions to make.

Finally, when I got the car back the front passenger window isn't operating at all, child lock isn't on and it doesn't work from driver or passenger switches. Is it possible that disconnecting the battery at dealer could have caused it to stop, maybe needs reset to work again?

I checked the fuses and another problem seems evident now, the amp rating of the fuses marked in the manual don't match the fuses actually in use in the panel I checked. Does this mean someone haphazardly replaced with whatever fuses they had available or is there another explanation?
