Hi all,

I have noticed recently that my gear selector gets stuck in P. I have to pump the brake pedal in order for me to be able to get the car out of park on some occasions. Sometimes worse than others. Does anyone have any experience of this and what can be done to rectify it?

Thanks,

Lee

With the ignition switched on, shifting from "P" or N" to a drive position is possible only if the brake pedal is depressed as well.

The locking facility is triggered by a solenoid valve, which activates a detent pawl on the selector lever. The multi-function switch detects the position "P" or "N" and signals this to the Tiptronic control module. However, the control module does not cause the solenoid to release the selector lever until a signal from the brake-light switch has arrived.

So, start by checking your brakes lights - do they always work?

If it is not the brake light switch then you will likely need a PST2 or PIWIS tester to see if there is a fault code in the Tiptronic control unit.
