oil pressure scare

The 03 TT gave me a good scare today. I was rolling to a stop, clutch in, when the dash lit up with "Oil pressure sensor failure." The oil gauge read 0. I blipped the throttle and the message went away and the gauge read normally. I had checked the oil an hour before and it was down one bar.

I searched the forums and found some info over in the 996 forum, but I need to know where the oil pressure sender is located on a turbo and if I can replace it and/or check the wiring myself. The local dealer is an idiot and I really don't want to go there. Is the pressure sensor just a single sensor or does if have a separate idiot light switch? Also with the engine off and the key on, I see a bar and a half or oil pressure on the gauge, so something is wrong.

The oil pressure switch is something that seems to fail often. It is only about $60.00 part# 996 606 203 00. The location is behind the oil filter and it is not easy to reach but can be done. To get more access you can always lower the engine about 2 to 4 inches see note below....

Had the very same issue a few times already. My regular Porsche dealer was clueless, but Sportec fixed it by just checking, cleaning and readjusting the wiring right at the sensor I think. Scary to see the needle fall down, but no big issue. ;-)

Thanks guy! In your situations, did the engine check light came on and flashed several times before it stayed on for good?

No, in my case, the needle just dropped suddenly. It eventually came back to normal, dropped again, etc...
