I have a 98 base Boxster with Tip. I just woke it up from it's winter sleep and when I put it in park the R indicator light flashes and it does not show that it is in Park. The car started right up and the only thing that seemed different was the shift lever was quite stiff. I originally put that to being very cold for a long time. The temp outside is about 34 and it was in an unheated garage which was probably below freezing because of the lack of light. I do not remember this befoe, but I never put it away for more tha 6 weeks before. I tried the search feature but could not find any info. Any information or guidance would be greatly appreciated. A quick update on the problem. When I went out to the garage to start the Boxster the indicator light showed that it was in drive. and not park or Reverse as before. I took it for a ride and it seemed to work well but when I put it in Park again it showed a flashing Reverse light again. I shut it off and restarted the car and it showed Drive again. I hasve no idea what is going on. Please help. Ed

Let check the car on fault codes first, looks like a communication problem between switch and electronics, rather than a gearbox problem.

Did you use a battery maintainer while it was in storage? As RFM states, we need to check the code and a simple clearing of the codes and a reset could solve all the problems.

Yes I did use a battery tender while it was resting. I hooked up the Durametric and got no tip codes. I did have these Alarm codes which I could not clear;

49 K lead

33 Interior Sensor faulty

21 W lead DME Immobilizer

I can't be sure but I believe that these codes were already in there before this problem. I tried to clear them before and was not allowed.

According to the information given at the Durametric Web site, it will read and clear Tip Fault Codes ; read Alarm codes but not clear them. If that is true then there are not fault codesd on the Tip. I will try and clean the selector switch in a couple of days and see how that works. Thanks for your help. Ed
