Well my 99 had a cracked coolant tank. I just replaced it today in about an hour. I was expecting it to be a really tough job. It was really easy. And to think I was going to have the dealer do it for $600.00..... What are they smoking??? Parts cost $230. Anyway, the car and I are happy campers now.

I have a buyer coming to look at the 996 this weekend. sniff, sniff :(

did your coolant leak onto your exhaUST tips/ exhaust in anyway? cuz i think i have coolant leaking on my exhaust and its pretty annoying cuz it gets all over the place.

When I recently purchased mine, it too had a small leak... We first noticed a smelly, white chalky substance on my left tail pipe tip. I took it to the dealer, they fixed it and then cleaned up the residue.

*Don't forget to clean up the white chalky stuff on the tip or else it will continue to smell.

PS

I paid the $600 cuz they said that it was a pain in the butt to get back to the tank reservoir ...

Its a very easy job. All you do is remove the airfilter housing (1 bolt) and unscrew the hose clamp on throttle body. Drain coolant from tank out from the motor bolt on bottom of engine. Just the coolant from the tank, not the whole system. Then remove the 3 bolts that hold the air pump on and move it out of the way (zip ties worked well) then undo all the coolant lines going into the tank. Remove the 2 fuel line connections 17mm and 19mm. Then the fun part of maneuvering the tank out. Do not forget to unplug the sender wire on the bottom of the tank.

The new tank was a bit harder to maneuver in. With a little force it will go in.

It's a joke the dealer charges $600 for that change. It is as easy as an oil change.

Next step is to take the car to a do it yourself car wash and spray all that crap off the tailpipes and underside.
