About a half hour after parking MY99 Boxster 2.5, 5 speed, 40,000 miles on the clock, in the garage after a ride today, I noticed a fluid on the ground on the drivers side of the car. it looked clear, like water. With a flashlight I looked under the car and could see that it was dripping from the plastic underbody panels about in the middle of the car, maybe closer to the drivers side. With the flashlight shining on the drip it was green in color. I looked under the carpet in the rear trunk and there is no sign of any leakage from the cap or the expansion reservoir. A couple of months ago my coolant light was flashing and I topped off the reservoir with distilled water, did not take too much, maybe 4ozs. I have not been driving the car a lot because of the weather. The car ran fine today, normal temp and no coolant light flashing. Did not get the car up on stands yet, hopefully this week some time. What should I look for and how can I tell if it is the water pump? Thanks Jim

lower passenger side front is where the water pump is .... get up on ramps or jack stands and pull panel. could also be a leaky hose or connection.... although unlikey that side .. maybe even a pressure crack in resovoir.

find it and fix it .... cheaper now than later.... don't wait for overheat light.

Thanks, yes I need to get it up on stands. I was thinking that maybe the fluid was leaking from the passenger side and then finding its way to the drivers side on the panel. Will I be able to tell by looking at the waterpump that it went bad?

What you describe sounds more like power steering fluid. It is slightly green, as you describe, and there is a union fitting under the driver side hidden above that plastic panel. The coolant lines from the engine to the front are all metal and run under the center of the car. You'll find the source for sure once to get the panel removed.
