Installing external door seals

Hi, I'm in the process of replacing the external door seals/weatherstips in my 98 boxster and having difficulty.

The instructions I have are "Position the door seal on the outside at the top edge of the door and push it on".

I don't seem to be able to apply enough force and am wondering if there is a knack to get it on. Also do I need to remove the window to install the seals?

Remove the side mirror and door trim, apply some silicone spray inside the triangular part of the seal (mirror) and around the window opening for easy and proper fitment without force. The window can stay in place.
