997s our E92 M3

I was wondering which car was cheaper to own and maintain, the E92 M3 our the Porsche 997s, becouse I love both cars but would have to choose one and if out of warranty?

Maybe this can help...I have a 330CIC and a Boxster. The boxster i find is cheap. (Except for the 9 quarts of oil). All parts that i can get for the boxster are cheap compared to the BMW. I took the BMW in for the 60k service and $900 later. But all i can see that was done was the oil change and new wipers. (They installed them wrong). They even rotated my tires front to back. (Different sizes). A little "M" sticker on the wheels came off while washing the car and $10 for a replacement. Now i have oil smell or exhause smell inside the car. Don't know if it is a leaking valve gasket or exhaust but it stinks. Now i just drive the boxster. The 330 gets only 5k/year tops.

Tires will be more for the 911.

Servicing should be cheaper for the 911.

Parts cheaper for the porsche

Fuel milage will be better with the BMW on paper.

Insurance...who knows. My boxster is cheaper. Maybe because it's not worth anything.

911 would be much more fun. IMO :D

Dang! Bimmers have to be awfully expensive to maintain, if Porsches are cheaper! But seafeye is right, they're tons of fun to drive; I can't leave mine in the garage. Best grocery-shopping and freeway-fighting car I ever had.

I have to agree, I spent way more $ maintaining my previous BMW's than on my Porsches (except for that nasty engine failure recently.) I consider that a "one off" event and still would rather drive and own the Porsche any day. I'm afraid I will never go back.. :D

Except for the fact that the BMW pays for all maintainence the first 4yrs. or 50k miles. Also, the Porsche gets way better fuel economy over the E92 M3. Those things are rated 14/20 vs. the 17/24 for the 997S.

Both cars will probably run similar routine maintenance costs, as far as the occasional repair, that will depend on how you drive and how lucky you are ;)

If I may suggest, you should really go out and drive both of the cars, I went through the M3 versus 997 debate and decided on a 997. I absolutely love driving the car. A close friend recently picked up an M3 and I had the opportunity to spend an entire day driving the car. Although it is a capable and fun to drive car, I was very happy to hop back into the 997. If you do not need the greater utility the M3 offers in terms of passenger and cargo space, there really is no substitute for the pleasure of driving the Porsche.

I have owned both cars, (presently the 997 s), and can safely say that the porsche is way way way cheaper to run than an E92 M3.
